My dear friends, a few months ago I was in Mexico, and I took advantage of this trip to record some special videos for you about the culture of the country with the largest Spanish-speaking population in the world. One of those videos is a “tutorial” on how to do the famous Mexican mariachi shout. <\/p>\n

What is the mariachi call, and why is it so popular?<\/h2>\n

Before I show you “the tutorial,” I want to talk a little bit about the mariachi call. As a Hispanic American, the term is very familiar to me, but it’s probably not known in every country. <\/p>\n

Mariachi is a Mexican musical genre. It originated in Guadalajara (one of Mexico’s states) and is one of the best-known forms of traditional Mexican music outside the country. <\/p>\n

Some of the most popular singers known for performing mariachi songs include Vicente Fern\u00e1ndez, Pepe Aguilar, Jos\u00e9 Alfredo Jim\u00e9nez, and Jorge Negrete, among others.-You can find some of their songs in my music library.<\/a><\/p>\n

Mariachi songs are usually about love, heartbreak, or stories from life. The lyrics are full of emotion, and it is from that emotion that the mariachi’s cry is born. In songs of this type, it is common to hear a particular shout, and that shout is known as the \u201cmariachi shout.\u201d<\/strong> The reason singers (and Mexicans in general) shout is to express the feelings and emotions that the songs evoke in them.<\/p>\n
