In Spanish we do NOT say NO to an invitation… we do this… politely decline invitations
Guacamayos, today I come to teach you something basic of courtesy that is related to the culture of Hispanic Americans and that is how to refuse an invitation to which you do not want to go, without saying NO. Watch this video carefully to learn the lesson in Spanish.
Strategies for declining invitations in Spanish
- Give an explanation as to why we cannot go.
- Show joy in going, but show an excuse that prevents us from going.
- Postpone the decision so as not to reject outright and dilute the responsibility on someone else.
- Give false hope by saying “yes, it can be”. (I do not recommend this one, but it is very common).
